Villas, Voices, and Vacations: Latino Summers in Ulster County

August 10 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Step back in time to discover Las Villas—a vibrant network of summer resorts in Plattekill, NY, that once catered to Latino families from New York City. In this multimedia presentation, author and historian Ish Martinez and community storyteller Carla Ramos share the little-known history of these beloved vacation spots, their cultural impact, and the families who built them. Through photos, personal stories, and discussion, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation of this unique chapter in Ulster County’s past. Whether you lived it or are just discovering it, this program offers insight, nostalgia, and a celebration of community heritage.

This event is free, but seating is limited—please reserve your spot in advance.
We suggest a donation of $15 to support the Sunday Salon Series and the work of the Ulster County Historical Society. You can contribute online when you RSVP or donate at the event itself via cash, check, or credit card.
