Bevier House Annual Holiday Candlelight Tours
December 5 and 6
The soft glow of candlelight, the sounds of live classical music, the smell
of hot mulled cider, the splendor of Victorian Holiday decorations; all will
be experienced by guests at the Bevier House Museum, Marbletown, NY on December
5 & 6 from 12 Noon to 5 PM. Travel back in time to experience the holiday
season as celebrated by the Bevier family during two distinctly different
eras. Guests will learn about how the Bevier family would have celebrated
Christmas in both the Colonial and the Victorian Eras. Both floors of one
of Ulster Countys largest stone homes are lavishly decorated in Victorian
splendor and partly decorated in simple Dutch Colonial. The house radiates
beauty as our period costumed docents celebrate the holidays with our guests.
Learn about the origin of Dutch customs popularized by Washington Irving,
view the holiday spender, such as trees decorated with handcrafted ornaments,
period toys, and colorful holiday floral arrangements. New this year will
be a display of toys from the 1910s through the 1960s. The display
will include all types of toys from many different decades. Hop-a-long Cassidy
cap guns will be next to 1917 doll furniture and Lionel trains will run next
to 1920s pedal cars. Shirley Temple dolls will be located next to dolls with
porcelain faces from the 1910s. Dont miss this exciting new display!
The Bevier House Museum, Headquarters of The Ulster County Historical Society
